Coat of Arms

The Barrett coat of arms, featuring ten alternating red and white horizontal stripes, was originally granted to John Baret, a member of William the Conqueror’s army.

This means that, despite common misconceptions, only individuals who can directly trace their paternal lineage to John Baret are legally entitled to use this Barrett coat of arms and crest.

To include all clan members, the clan chief has adopted a badge inspired by Scottish tradition that any Barrett can wear to show their clan allegiance.

The Barrett arms are blazoned as a Barry of ten per pale argent and gules counterchanged; Crest: A demi-lion rampant sable, ducally crowned per pale argent and gules.
